Choosing a PPI target
300 PPI is a common close-view target. 240 PPI is still very good for many prints. 150 PPI can be acceptable for large posters. The appropriate resolution depends on viewing distance and printer requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Is this image really 300 DPI?
Only if it has embedded resolution metadata set to 300, and even then that number is a label. Effective print resolution is pixels divided by print inches.
What if my image has no DPI metadata?
That is common, especially for PNG and WebP files. The checker still uses pixel width and height to estimate print sizes at 150, 200, 240, and 300 PPI.
Does changing DPI improve quality?
No. Changing the DPI label does not add detail. It only changes how some programs translate pixels into inches.
Which formats can I check?
JPEG, PNG, and WebP. TIFF, HEIC, and AVIF are not inspected here because browser support is incomplete or the files need extra decoders.
